The summer of 2015 in Minnesota was the summer of Woody Harrelson and Laura Dern.  They were spotted in, what seemed like, every corner of our state.  I even spotted them at the Basilica Block Party.  Woody was eating cheese curds and rocking out to Weezer.  Why were they everywhere?  They were filming Wilson, a major motion picture!

If you were on social media in the summer of 2015, you probably spotted dozens of Woody Harrelson pictures with fans.  If you don't remember, try clicking here.

So, what's the movie about?  The movie company, Fox Searchlight says:

Harrelson stars as Wilson, a lonely, neurotic and hilariously honest middle-aged misanthrope who reunites with his estranged wife (Laura Dern) and gets a shot at happiness when he learns he has a teenage daughter (Isabella Amara) he has never met.  In his uniquely outrageous and slightly twisted way, he sets out to connect with her.

Filming locations included:

  • Mall of America
  • St. Paul
  • Woodbury
  • Minneapolis
  • Lake Minnetonka
  • Como Park
  • East Lake Street
  • Oak Park Heights

Why Minnesota?  I mean, why choose our state, besides the fact we are awesome and have so much to offer?  Well, one of the movie's producers says the state's "snowbate" rebate was a big factor.  They say it helped cut filming costs by roughly 25%.  That sounds like a win-win to me.  We get people spending money in Minnesota, Woody and Laura hanging with us, and the world gets a great movie featuring Minnesota!

Wilson will hit theaters on March 24th, 2017.

PS - Woody has filmed 2 other movies in Minnesota.  They are A Prairie Home Companion and North Country.

Are you ready for the trailer for Wilson?
