Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Fire Department responded to a house fire in northwest Rochester late Friday night.

A news release says the occupants of the home at 2809 56th Street Northwest were alerted by smoke detectors and called 911 just after 11 PM after seeing smoke in the lower level of the house. The firefighters to arrive at the scene reported seeing flames showing from the exterior of the home, which is located in the neighborhood just northeast of the 55th Street interchange on Highway 52

The crews entered the house and were able to quickly extinguish the fire while searching the residence to make sure everyone had made it out safely. The fire was confined to a kitchen area in the basement and there was smoke damage throughout the lower level of the home.

The news release does not list any information on the cause of the fire.
