Thursday night, KFIL brought you high school boys basketball on KFIL Sports. The Lanesboro Burros were looking for their first home win, and the Houston Hurricanes were looking to stop a losing streak

The game started out as we kind of expected, a three-pointer drained by the Burros, then they were answered with 2 buckets from the Hurricanes to give the visitors a 4-3 lead. The teams went back and forth and we were all tied at 8-8 and later on 16-16. The Burros then got more three-point shooting going to get to a 29-20 lead with 10 seconds remaining in the first half. With time running down in the half, though, Houston's Wesley Johnson pulled up from Steph Curry range to make it a 29-23 halftime score. On the Lanesboro side, Carson Schwichtenberg led the scoring in the first half with 12 points.

The second half took a while to get going in the scoring department. The offenses were more patient against the zone defenses urging the teams to make extra passes. Houston kept on driving for impressive shots inside, and Lanesboro got the ball inside a couple more times, but were very effective from beyond the arc still. The Hurricanes also crashed the offensive glass well to get more chances, with both teams fighting hard. A 7-0 run by each team in the half kept it close, and after leading 46-34 and 51-40, the Lanesboro lead was cut to 51-47 before Collin Scott answered with a three to double up the Burros lead. Wesley Johnson drove to the basket on the other side, got contact, and completed the 3-point play to get it back to a four-point game. Time ran low and mistakes were limited by the Burros, and they the lead to finish the game with a 63-54 win.

For the Houston Hurricanes, the KFIL Subway Player of the Game was Wesley Johnson. The senior guard completed that three-point play and scored 14 by my math.

The KFIL Subway Player of the Game for the Lanesboro Burros was senior Cole Schwichtenberg. Cole came into the game 52 points away from 1,000 in his career. He is now closer after scoring 23 points-16 of them in the second half.

The Kingsley Mercantile Game Ball Award went to Collin Scott. The Lanesboro senior scored a solid 21 points and was the answer when the visitors were surging.
