Caledonia Man Charged With Using Stolen Money On Gaming Site
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Caledonia man has been charged in Olmsted County Court with diverting money from a dementia patient to his personal use - mostly on an online gaming website.
The criminal complaint against 31-year-old Edward Washburn was filed this week, charging him with two counts of financially exploiting a vulnerable adult.
The investigation began after the nursing home where the 64-year-old victim was living reported several monthly rent payments had been missed. An investigator learned Washburn was responsible for the monthly social security payments that had not been made.
The investigator discovered Washburn had used an ATM to obtain some of the money but the majority had been routed to a gaming website.
The investigation found Washburn had diverted nearly $14,000 between April 2016 and August 2017. He has been ordered to make his first court appearance in May.
