Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has elevated its rating of the community transmission of COVID-19 in the Rochester area from substantial to high.

The elevated rating signifies that the testing positivity rate for the virus has reached a threshold of an average of more than 100 cases per 100,000 people over the past seven days. The high transmission rating is now found in a majority of the counties in southeastern Minnesota. Dodge, Winona, Houston, Fillmore, Steele, and Freeborn Counties are all on the list, while the community transmission rate remains listed as substantial in Mower, Goodhue, and Wabasha counties.

The increase in the community transmission of the virus in Olmsted County is occurring despite the high percentage of local residents who have been vaccinated against COVID-19. The latest numbers from the Minnesota Department of Health indicate about two-thirds of all Olmsted County residents had received at least one dose of COVID vaccine, while over 80-percent of Olmsted County residents 12 years and older have had at least one of the shots.
