Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A face mask requirement announced earlier this afternoon by the Mayo Civic Center has been followed by the announcement of a new face-covering mandate for all buildings operated by the City of Rochester.

A news release says the mask requirement will go into effect tomorrow and will include all employees and visitors regardless of their vaccination status. The statement says the requirement will remain in place until further notice.

Earlier this week, Olmsted County enacted an identical mandate for all County employees and visitors inside County government buildings. The mask requirement in the public facilities follows Centers for Disease Control guidance for areas that have substantial community transmission rates for the COVID-19 virus.

Olmsted County met the threshold for substantial transmission earlier this week, while a growing number of neighboring counties have seen their community transmission rates rise to the level the CDC has categorized as high. Fillmore, Houston, and Winona Counties today joined Dodge and Freeborn Counties on that list.
