Check Out How Deep Our Snow is in Rochester

Our historic month of heavy snowfall has resulted in some seriously deep snow across southeast Minnesota!

It was last Sunday, February 17th-- about three winter storms ago-- when we broke the record for the most snowfall for the month of February. And that was before the foot of new snow that Old Man Winter dumped on us this past weekend.

All that has added up to some seriously DEEP snow across our area. After I snow-blowed our driveway one of the times yesterday, I took a trip across our front yard to make sure our gas meter wasn't buried, and the snow was up to my waist-- and I'm about 5' 11" tall.

In fact, Chris Kuball, Chief Meteorologist at ABC-6, posted a graphic on his Twitter page over the weekend that shows just how deep our snow now is here in Rochester. He said that we currently have about 28 inches of snow on the ground, way more than other areas of the state (like the Twin Cities, where the snow depth is a puny 17 inches.)

Our snowy February is now the second snowiest month EVER in Rochester, coming in with a whopping 39.7 inches, just shy of December 2010, which is the snowiest month, when we got 41.3 inches (including that massive storm that collapsed the Metrodome's roof.)

Finally, for the season-- despite the fact that we didn't have much snow at all in December and January-- we're still ranked as the 6th snowiest, and Lord knows, we still have March to get through!
