COVID-19: MN Reports New Highs For Hospitalizations and ICU Usage
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of Minnesotans in the hospital due to COVID-19 continues to steadily rise and today topped 600 for the first time.
The Minnesota Department of Health today reported 605 people are currently hospitalized in the state due to the coronavirus infection. The previous high mark for the statistic was reported Saturday when 563 Minnesotans were in the hospital. The ICU bed usage reported today was 248, which is also the highest since the start of the pandemic.
The health department says just under 6100 tests for COVID-19 were completed on Sunday and those tests identified 745 new infections. 11 of them were in Olmsted County. The overall statewide total is now up to 21,300, while Olmsted County has now seen 562 confirmed cases of the illness.
12 additional COVID-19 deaths were reported today. It was the third straight day the number of fatalities has been below 20 after the daily death count surged above 30 last week. There have now been 881 deaths attributed to COVID-19 statewide.
The number of Minnesotans listed as recovered and no longer requiring isolation has grown to over 14,800.
