Did You See How Much Snow Rochester Could Get Saturday?

Forget that inch or so of snow that fell on Wednesday, southeast Minnesota could see a lot more of the white stuff this Saturday.

Now, while it's not the first snowfall of the season here in our neck of the woods, the storm that might be, possibly, maybe, thinking about heading our way (meteorologists aren't quite sure, mind you) could dump some significant amounts of snow across our area this weekend.

Of course, even though Saturday is only 48 hours away, the exact track the storm will take is still somewhat of a guess. But the National Weather Service office in La Crosse is confident enough we'll see some snow that it issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa and western Wisconsin.

The watch kicks in Saturday morning and runs through Sunday morning, and they're saying it could be a 'significant winter storm'. Here's what the NWS thinks could happen:

"A wintry mix of precipitation is going to spread northeast across the area late Friday night and Saturday morning. The precipitation is then expected to transition to rain or snow, depending on how warm the surface temperatures are. Where temperatures will be closer to the freezing mark, several inches of snow are possible, mainly from later Saturday morning through Sunday morning," the NWS noted.

So just how much snow will we be shoveling Sunday morning? Well, the NWS says anywhere from 4 to 8 inches are a definite possibility for the Rochester area. So if you haven't already, get those shovels and snowblowers ready!
