In a news release from the Minnesota Department of Corrections, a 43-year-old man has died while having Coronavirus while being incarcerated at the Faribault Correctional Facility.  According to the release, "at approximately 9:45 PM, on June 23, 2020, the man,  Adrian Raymaar Keys, died at a local hospital. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death."

Keys along with over 200 other prisoners at the facility tested positive for COVID-19 on June 4, 2020. The release stated that "Mr. Keys’ condition deteriorated over the weekend of June 20 and he was hospitalized on June 22. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. If determined to be related to COVID-19 complications, this would be the first such death of a person incarcerated in Minnesota."

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Keys,” Minnesota Department of Corrections Commissioner Paul Schnell said. “Since the start of the pandemic we’ve worked to take all reasonable steps to minimize the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in the state’s correctional facilities for the well-being of those we serve and our staff.”

The first case of COVID-19 in the Faribault correctional facility was reported back on June 3, 2020. Since then more than 200 additional cases have been discovered since the first positive test, with the majority experiencing no symptoms. Three prisoners including Keys have required hospitalization for their symptoms. Two remain hospitalized – one in critical condition. Currently, there are 1,734 men being incarcerated in the facility.
