Fast Moving Storm Hits Rochester With 60 MPH Winds
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester area residents saw their outdoor activities interrupted Friday evening by a severe thunderstorm that created a spectacular, but scary looking view to the west at sunset.
The fast-moving storm produced a 60-mile-per-hour wind gust at the Rochester Airport and delivered periods of torrential rain as it cruised through the city at about 35 miles per hour around 8:30 pm.
Earlier in the day, severe storms visited the Albert Lea area and hit sections of Winona and Houston Counties. Hail as large as 1 ½ inches in diameter was reported near Albert Lea, while there were reports of three-quarters of an inch to an inch diameter hail near St. Charles and Lewiston.
Separate from the severe storms, the National Weather Service is reporting a touchdown involving a weak landspout tornado near Faribault. It was spotted near Minnesota Lake around 2:30 pm.
