FC/L Uses Two Big Innings To Top Houston
It was a beautiful Saturday morning in Preston, and baseball was on the air on Cool 104! The Fillmore Central/Lanesboro Falcons used a six-run second inning and a seven-run fourth inning to defeat the Houston Hurricanes 16-0.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead into the second, and in the second the game was busted open when Cole Schwichtenberg hit a two-run triple to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead. Collin Scott followed with a double, and Riley Means followed with a single and eventually came home to score to make the score 7-0 after two innings of play.
FC/L added two more in the third, and then the Hurricanes started to threaten in the fourth.
Alex Alfson reached via an error, and the Damon Carrier reached on a hit by pitch. Then, with runners on the corners, relief pitcher Carson Schwichtenberg came up big and shut down the Hurricanes threat to keep the score 9-0.
The Falcons put up another seven runs in the fourth. It started after a walk to Sam Rustad, and then the next seven Falcon hitters reached safely to extend the lead and make the score 16-0.
Logan Corson got the start for FC/L and he went three innings, allowed one hit and struck out four. Carson Schwichtenberg finished with one inning pitched and struck out one. Josh Peters pitched the final inning for the Falcons and set the Hurricanes down 1-2-3.
Brady Happel got the start for Houston, while James Hongerholt pitched in relief. The Hurricanes were playing their fourth game in three days, and have a fifth game in six days as they take on Lyle/Austin Pacelli on Monday.
