He was the son of former head coach, Mike Zimmer, and was also once the Vikings' defensive coordinator.

The tragic news broke Tuesday morning (Nov 1st) that the son of former Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer had passed away. Adam Zimmer was only 38 years old. The sad news was first posted on his sister (Mike Zimmer's daughter) Corri Zimmer White's Instagram page.

This USA Today story reports that Adam joined his dad here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes 8 years ago and had been on the Vikings' coaching staff beginning in 2014 when he was hired as linebackers coach. He remained in that role until the 2020 season when he was promoted to co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Adam left  Minnesota earlier this year when his dad was let go as head coach.

Adam Zimmer had been working this season as an offensive analyst for the Cincinnati Bengals, the same team he and his father worked for before joining Minnesota. He had also previously worked in the NFL as a defensive coach for the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons.

No specific details have been released on what caused Adam Zimmer's death. Both the Bengals and the Vikings released statements Tuesday morning. The Vikings'  statement reads:

"We are heartbroken to hear about the passing of Adam Zimmer. Adam was a kind, respectful man, and over his years in Minnesota, it was evident he cared tremendously about his family, his players, his fellow coaches and the Vikings front office staff. Our thoughts are with Mike, Corri, Marki and the entire Zimmer family."

Sadly, this isn't the first tragedy the Zimmer family has faced. Mike's wife, Vikki, was only 50 years old when she suddenly passed away of natural causes 13 years ago, in October of 2009. Mike was then a coach on the Bengal's staff, and he and Vikki had been married for 27 years when she tragically passed away.
