Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  It was unanimous. The Rochester School Board Thursday night voted to hire Kent Pekel as interim superintendent.

He was one of three finalists for the job and accepted the offer after the vote.

An employment contract will be acted on by the board Tuesday.

Pekel (puh KELL) is CEO of Search Institute. He is expected to be on the job July 1st and work here for a year while the board looks for a permanent superintendent. Pekel may apply for the position.

Current superintendent Michael Munoz is stepping down at the end of June, ending a 10 year run as head of the state’s 7th largest school district.
