Craft beer has become very popular in the last few years as more and more people enjoy the local brews as opposed to anything that is made nationally.  More and more beweries have popped up, and they all have their own take on several types of craft beers.  Basically there is something for everyone.  Even if you don't like some types of craft beer, there is generally something else you can turn to, including varieties of seltzers.

Since the trend of craft beers has become so popular, so has the competition of which ones are the best.  This was a blind taste test competition and they are all in different categories.

I love to see beers from local breweries, around the St. Cloud area win some of these competitions. Especially in a natonal competition.

Third Street Brewhouse located in Cold Spring won first place in the category of Fruit and Spice beers.  The beer that won was their Micro Peach.

Some other Minnesota brews won in their categories as well.

BEST IN SHOW:

Surly Brewing - Axe Man IPA

HARD SELTZER:

Sunken Ship - Minimum Wake

STRONG BEER:

Summit Brewing - Saga Imperial IPA

SPICE, HERB, VEGETABLE BEERS:

Big Axe - Coffee toffee blonde

AMERICAN AMBER, BROWN & PALE ALES:

Canal Park - Nut Hatched Brown Ale

You can check out the full list here. Make some plans for a brewery tour and try some of these winning brews.
