Rochester PD Arrests Armed Man at Apache Mall After Threats Call
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester police arrested an armed Illinois man at the Apache Mall Monday evening.
Police Captain Casey Moilanen said officers were made aware of a man in the mall who had threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend that he had two common children with around 5:40 p.m. Responding officers identified 22-year-old Jalen Davis as the man described in the emergency call.
Officers observed him immersed in his phone while sitting on a bench in front of the Champs store wearing a ski mask and a glove on his right hand. Officers were able to approach without being seen and confiscated a loaded 9 mm gun from him, Moilanen said.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Davis came to Rochester from Champaign, Illinois. Police also say Davis threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and that he had shown her the firearm while they were communicating over the internet before his arrest, according to Moilanen.
Davis was taken to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center and could face charges for felony threats, carrying a pistol without a permit, domestic assault and harassment. Jail records indicate he is awaiting arraignment in Olmsted County Court.
