LeRoy-Ostrander scored 21 straight points to open the game, but Lanesboro stormed back with 20 of their own. The Cardinals were able to force two late turnovers to secure a 27-20 win on Saturday night in LeRoy.

The Cardinals opened the scoring on a two-yard plunge by Isacc Collier, who finished with 140 rushing yards in the win. The Cardinals scored twice in the second quarter on big plays. Quarterback Chase Johnson connected with Tristan Lewison on a 64-yard strike to make it 14-0. The two connected again on a fourth-down play from 25-yards out to get out to a 21-0 lead.

Lanesboro's offense connected on their own big play just 60 seconds later when Quarterback Seth Semmen connected with Carter Clarke on a 46-yard touchdown to make it 21-6 at the break.

The Burros struck right away in the second half on their first play from scrimmage when J.T Rein scampered on a 74-yard touchdown run to make it 21-14.

The Burros made it 20 unanswered points when Hayden Lawstuen added a 52-yard touchdown run to make ti 21-20 midway through the third quarter.

The defenses on both sides really locked down in the fourth quarter, but Johnson was able to make a beautiful pass to Brodi Nesler for a 41-yard strike to make ti 27-20.

While it was still a one-possession game, the Burros were able to intercept a Johnson pass with just five minutes left in the game. The next play, the Burros fumbled the snap, and the Cardinals recovered. The Burros were eventually able to make the Cardinals punt, but the Burros fumbled on the return and the Cardinals gobbled it up to control the possession and run out the clock.

It was a game filled with big plays along with stout defense when each team needed it most, but the Burros turned the ball over four times, and the Cardinals took advantage to win the game.

Collier finished with 145 yards and a touchdown to lead the rushing game for the Cardinals, while Johnson had 81 yards on the ground to go along with 217 passing yards and three scores. Lewison led the receiving department with five catches for 137 yards and two scores.

J.T Rein led the Burros with 110 yards rushing and a score, while Lawstuen added 73 yards. Semmen connected added 27 yards on the ground and 46 through the air.

The Cardinals moved to 1-0 on the season with Southland on their schedule for next week. Lanesboro falls to 0-1 and they take on Lyle in Week 2.
