La Crescent, MN (KROC AM News) – The Mayo Clinic health care facility in La Crescent will soon be closing.

Mayo announced Friday it is planning to close its primary care clinic in the small SE Minnesota town in November and will transfer its services to other sites, including nearby La Crosse.

Mayo released this statement from Michael Morrey, its regional chair of administration for the Mayo Clinic Health System in northwestern Wisconsin:

"This was a difficult and well-considered decision. We are exploring ways that we can provide health care services more efficiently and effectively while being good stewards of our resources.”

Mayo says affected workers were notified before the announcement was made.

Earlier this year, Mayo announced it planned to reduce the number of workers at its La Crosse site by an unknown number.
