1891-James K. Hilyard dies is St. Paul. He was a co-founder of the Western Appeal, one of Minnesota's first black owned newspapers.
1899-The Legislature creates a state public library commission.
1940-World Famous soprano Lily Pons gives a concert while her husband Andre Kostelanetz conducts the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra.
1961- The Minnesota Twins play their first game at Metropolitan Stadium
