Prosecutors said 21-year-old Jerome Swanson, of Hennepin County, approached an individual who was driving a vehicle in Minneapolis on June 5th of last year. Swanson asked for a ride to a nearby location. When the victim and Swanson arrived, Swanson pulled out a pistol, pointed it at the victim, and demanded that the individual give the vehicle to Swanson.

After a struggle, the victim was shot in the hip. Swanson fled from the scene driving the victim’s vehicle. Swanson was later arrested with the vehicle and pistol used to facilitate the carjacking.

Swanson pleaded guilty in July of this year to one count of carjacking and one count of brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Tuesday, he was sentenced to 115 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
