Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It’s a somber day for the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy was found dead Thursday night while on duty at the adult detention center.

Sheriff Kevin Torgerson says another detention deputy found Mark Anderson unresponsive in the employee locker room around 9:30 pm. It’s believed he may been there 10-15 minutes.

Lifesaving measures were started immediately and Anderson was taken to the emergency room where he was pronounced dead.

Anderson was 52-years-old and Torgerson says it appears his death was medically related.

Torgerson says Anderson had been a detention deputy since March 2010 after working as a county employee in other positions for 15 years.

The sheriff says Anderson is the first deputy to die while on duty since Jack Werner was shot and killed in Rochester on May 17, 1977.
