Oronoco Man Pleads Guilty For Nearly Killing 3-Year Old Girl
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A former Chatfield man today entered into a plea agreement to settle charges stemming from a traffic crash last November that nearly claimed the life of a three-year-old girl.
39-year-old Joshua Jacobson, who now lives in Oronoco, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of criminal vehicular operation resulting in great bodily harm. He was accused of being under the influence of illegal drugs when he failed to stop at a rural Olmsted County intersection and his vehicle smashed into the side of another vehicle, critically injuring the toddler.
The criminal complaint against Jacobson says a deputy arrived at the scene to find the child's mother performing CPR and described the girl as "appearing lifeless." The deputy took over the lifesaving efforts and was able to restore the young girl's pulse. It was later determined that she had suffered a severe brain injury, along with other injuries that included a lacerated spleen and liver.
The court records say another deputy at the scene was aware of Jacobson's past drug use and noted he was showing possible signs of being under the influence of methamphetamine. A blood sample was taken and it showed traces of meth and THC in his system.
Jacobson is scheduled to be sentenced on December 31.
