Owatonna Police recently recovered an allegedly stolen vehicle that also matched the description of a car involved in a hit-and-run incident. The report in the Owatonna Police Department (OPD) e-newsletter Just the Facts, states the police were called out to a local convenience store on a report of an impaired driver in a vehicle with bumper damage.

Police located the driver and he was "found to have an outstanding warrant-he was placed under arrest," according to the newsletter. "During a search of the vehicle, a pipe and presumptive methamphetamine was in the vehicle. The driver displayed signs of impairment but refused to perform roadside field sobriety testing."

A search warrant was issued to take a blood sample and 30-year-old Mustafe Hirsi of St. Paul was arrested and was charged with multiple counts. The Honda Pilot was reported stolen in the Twin Cities and may have been involved in an accident in Faribault.

COPS IN THE COMMUNITY

On a brighter note, members of the Owatonna Police Department assisted with Community Pathways Truck-to-Trunk food distribution event on Thursday, February 18 at the Steele County Fairgrounds. "The eight volunteering officers managed the traffic and loaded boxes of food that served 1,200 families," proclaims Just the Facts.

"It is important for us to give back to the community we care about. Sometimes serving and protecting includes helping deliver nutritious food to eat."
