Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - It is being described as the largest Spotlight on Crime reward ever offered in Minnesota.
A total of $180,000 is now being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for shootings earlier this year that resulted in the deaths of two young children and the critical wounding of a third. The Spotlight on Crime program is putting up $150,000 of the reward money, which is being combined with up to $30,000 in reward money previously offered by Crime Stoppers.
The first of the three shootings occurred on April 30th when 10-year-old Ladavionne Garrett Junior was shot in the head while riding in a vehicle. He remains in critical condition. 9-year-old Trinity Ottoson-Smith was jumping on a trampoline in a yard outside a home in North Minneapolis when she was shot in the head on May 15th and died 12 days later. The third shooting occurred on May 17th when 6-year-old Aniya Allen was shot while riding in her mother's car after a visit to a North Minneapolis McDonald's restaurant. She died two days later.
A news release issued by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety says all three shootings involved gun violence allegedly among rival gangs and the young victims were unintended targets.
Anyone with information that might help the investigators working on any of the cases is urged to step forward. They can contact Crime Stoppers at crimestoppersmn.org or the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension by phone at 877-996-6222 or online through bca.tips@state.mn.us.
