Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester firefighters were called on to rescue a man from Bear Creek Sunday afternoon.

A news release says fire crews were sent to an area of Bear Creek near the 400 block of 8th Avenue Southeast around 3:30 p.m. The initial reports indicated a man was floating in the water east of the dam and was in distress and needed assistance.

The responding firefighters were able to walk into the moving water wearing flotation devices and using a water rescue rope. They then assisted the man to safety before he was transported to St. Mary's hospital by ambulance.

Information about the individual's condition and how he ended up in the creek has not been released.
