Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man has been charged with a recent assault and robbery at Apache Mall.

The victim told police he was outside the mall when a man “came up to him and said, “Where’s my stuff?” and then punched him multiple times.” The victim says the man took his backpack, got into a nearby truck and took off.

The victim told police he recognized the attacker and that he owed him $150. The victim said the stolen backpack ”contained several cell phones and an airsoft gun, and that the suspect took cash from him as well.”

The incident was recorded on a surveillance camera and witnessed by at least two people. One was a woman who told police as the suspect was walking away, he “yelled at her “Call the cops, bitch and I will f*** you up!” She said that she was afraid that the suspect was going to assault her but she walked to her car and called 911.

Police were able to identify the suspect and located him last Thursday. He was identified as 30-year-old Elvis Porte.

According to the criminal complaint, Porte said the victim “owed him money and he asked Victim for the money. Victim said he didn’t have the money and Porte got angry and punched him in the face a few times, before taking Victim’s backpack.”

Porte was arraigned Friday on a 1st degree aggravated robbery charge. He was also charged with tampering with a witness for threatening the female witness.  His bail was set at $25,000.
