Rochester, MN (KROC AM News)  - A Rochester man who was charged with robbing and kidnapping a victim at gunpoint last year has avoided a possible prison sentence.

The victim was outside his residence the night of April 22nd when he was confronted by Chauncey Williams, who was 19 at the time. The victim said Williams pointed a gun at him and demanded his wallet, phone and keys.

Williams got into the victim’s car and ordered him to sit in the passenger seat. He let the victim out a few blocks away and drove off. Police located the stolen vehicle a week later and arrested Williams when they caught him driving it.

Williams later pleaded guilty to a felony robbery charge and was sentenced Monday.

Olmsted County Judge Jacob Allen placed Williams on probation for 10 years and ordered him to perform 200 hours of community work service. Allen accepted a recommendation for the lighter sentence after it was determined Williams is ”particularly amenable to probation” and showed remorse for his actions. The prosecutor in the case objected to the lighter sentence.
