Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has forced organizers of the annual commemoration of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday in Rochester to make major changes for this year's event.

Unlike past years, when the Rochester Area Chamber of Congress hosted the annual "We Have a Dream" breakfast, which was followed by a rally and march through downtown Rochester and a birthday party for the slain civil rights leader at the Mayo Civic Center, the 2021 commemoration will be a virtual event. The NAACP Rochester branch, Diversity Council, City of Rochester, Olmsted County, and the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to host the 26th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Facebook.

The live-streamed virtual gathering will take place from 10 a.m through 2 p.m. on Monday and will feature a keynote interview with former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page. It will also feature local students, local performers, the annual poetry contest winners, and other speakers.

The live stream will be found on the NAACP Rochester Branch Facebook page and will remain available for viewing afterward. The program for the event can be viewed here.
