Rochester Police Investigating Used Phone Scam
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester Police Dept. is getting the word out about a scam involving the sale of a used cellphone.
The latest incident was reported by a Winona man and woman Sunday.
The two told police they had made arrangements to buy an iPhone 13 they spotted on Facebook Marketplace from a man in Rochester.
The man told them to meet him in the 1000 block area of 23rd St SE.
The couple gave the man $375 and he gave them the phone. While they were looking at the phone it rang and they gave it back to the man. The man told them his mother called to tell him she forgot to delete some information. He told the couple he would be right back but he never returned.
They were not able to get a good description of the man because he was wearing a covid mask and a tight hoodie but said he was black and stood about 5-5.
RPD says this is the 3rd time a scam like this was reported. The other two were on Feb 1st and 19th.
