Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - As predicted, heavy rains visited many areas of southeastern Minnesota Saturday night and another round of heavy rain is possible tonight.

The National Weather Service says the flood watch issued Saturday night has been extended until 8 AM Monday. It covers portions of southeastern Minnesota, northern Iowa, and western Wisconsin, including Olmsted, Dodge, Fillmore, Mower, Houston, Wabasha, and Winona counties.

According to the National Weather Service, the heavy rain that fell Saturday night has reduced the storage capacity of the soil in the region and additional precipitation could result in flash flooding. The current forecast indicates another 1 to 3 inches of rain could fall in the flood watch area tonight.

The rainfall total at the Rochester Airport from last night's storm was just under 2 inches, Stewartville reported more than 2.3 inches, Caledonia saw nearly 2.5 inches, and Lanesboro had the highest rainfall total in southeastern Minnesota at just under 2.6 inches. Areas of northern Iowa saw more than 4 inches of rain from the storm, with the highest total reported near the town of Dougherty in Floyd County at just over 4.5 inches.
