Super Saturday: 5 Exciting Volleyball Matches
Wow. Saturday was unbelievable, as our team presented a combined five volleyball matches on Saturday morning/afternoon.
On 103.1 KFIL - we had three matches, starting with the 1A East Semifinal with #1 Caledonia topping #4 Spring Grove, followed by the other Semifinal where #2 Mabel-Canton beat #3 Fillmore Central. We wrapped things up in 1A West Semifinal with #1 Hayfield defeating #4 Grand Meadow.
On Cool 104, it was 1AA East action, getting kicked off with #1 Plainview-Elgin-Milliville beating #4 Cotter, and then #2 St. Charles fell to #3 Red Wing in the Semifinal.
Caledonia tops Spring Grove
It was a fun one, and Caledonia was able to get the sweep 3-0. They took set one 25-11, set two 25-20 and set three 25-15. The combination of Lydia Lange and Madisyn Heaney was just too much for Spring Grove to over come. The Caledonia Warriors' offense was fantastic, and really made it difficult for the Lions to get their offense going. Mariah Edgington played great on offense and defense for the Lions, but Spring Grove came up short. The Warriors now move on to the 1A East final to take on Mabel-Canton

Mabel-Canton storms back to beat Fillmore Central
The Falcons were able to use their height to their advantage to take set one 25-23 against Mabel-Canton, but the Cougars stormed back, taking set two 25-17, set three 25-12 and set four 26-24. Mabel-Canton played much better at the net in the final three sets, as the Falcons could not get in rhythm on offense. It was the sophomore Payton Danielson that really got the Cougars offense going, while Kaelyn Marzoff kept the Falcons in it. The Cougars were just able to capitalize at the net, putting great swings on the ball to get the win.

Hayfield Doesn't Let Grand Meadow Get Back In It
The Hayfield Vikings were ranked as one of the top teams in the state, but the Superlarks were playing some of their best Volleyball of the season. It was a great match up, but the Superlarks slow start hurt them. Hayfield took set one 25-10 and set two 25-16. Grand Meadow finally found their groove, taking set three 25-21, after they came back from an 8-4 deficit. Jordyn Glynn was fantastic late in the set, while Riley Queensland was fantastic throughout the entire match. Hayfield then led for the majority of a very close fourth set, 25-21, behind great efforts from Carrie Rutlege, Maggie Streightiff and Kate Kruger. Hayfield will battle Fairbault BA for the Section 1A West title.

The Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs were in a fight with the Cotter Ramblers, but came away with a sweep to advance to the subsection final. PEM got great play from Hayley Dessner and Heidi Wolf, as set two and set three went into extra points. The last two sets were phenomenal, winning 28-26 and 30-28. The Bulldogs will advance to take on Red Wing in the Section 1AA East Subsection Final.
