The 2021 Rose Parade Has Been Cancelled Due to COVID-19

For the first time since World War II, the world famous Tournament of Roses Parade has been cancelled.

After careful consideration, thoughtful consideration with the current restrictions and ordinances that are in place due to COVID, and then the governor’s Stage IV reopening plans, we just felt that there was no way that we’d be able to host a Rose Parade this year - Dave Eads, CEO and Executive Director of the Tournament of Roses

 

According to a report from KTLA out of Los Angeles, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association has decided to cancel the 132nd variation of the Parade due to "restrictions and guidelines" imposed by the State of California's phased reopening plan. Each year, Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena sees thousands of people in attendance to watch the event as well as many volunteers who spend countless hours working and preparing floats for the big day. That is not even mentioning the total number of people who are in the parade from marching bands to those riding on the floats!

It’s really the safety of the general public and all of our members, our partners, that has to be a priority. And it’s really hard to do this year.

As a native Californian, I am sad to hear this news as the Parade is something I always enjoy watching New Years Day before binge watching the College Football Bowl Games and NHL's Winter Classic!
