Timberwolves Player Accused of Pointing Rifle at Family
Plymouth, MN (KROC-AM News) - A member of the Minnesota Timberwolves is facing felony charges for allegedly confronting a family with a rifle last month.
Court records indicate Plymouth police responded to a home to check on 911 reports of a man pointing an assault rifle at a family. When the officers arrived at the scene, they were greeted by 23-year-old Malik Beasley, who began walking down his driveway while yelling at them.
The officers then spoke with the family and were told by the couple and their 13-year-old child that they were on a "Parade of Homes" tour when they pulled up to the roped-off residence and the shoulder of the road. The police report says that's when they heard tapping on a window of their vehicle and saw Beasley pointing a gun at them and telling him to get off his property. The family told the officers they responded by driving away while Beasley kept pointing the rifle at them.
Plymouth police then obtained a search warrant to look for the gun allegedly used by Beasley and smelled the "overwhelming odor" of marijuana when they entered the house. That led to the discovery of 3 firearms and over 1.8 pounds of marijuana. Investigators also obtained a security camera video that verified the family's version of the events.
The criminal complaint filed against Beasley charges him with felony threats of violence and drug possession. His wife is also facing a drug possession charge connected to the September 26th incident. Beasley is scheduled to make his first court appearance on November 29th.
