Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Close to 10,000 people packed into a Sun Country Airlines hangar at the Twin Cities Airport Sunday afternoon for a campaign appearance by Donald Trump. The Republican presidential nominee chose to make a stop in Minnesota in the final days before the election, even though the state is not voted for Republican presidential candidate since Richard Nixon won his reelection bid by a landslide in 1972.

Trump, who spoke from a podium set up near the stairs leading to the entrance to the jetliner he has been using to crisscross the country for his many campaign stops, pointed to his recently reported victory in a statewide mock election by high school student as he predicted his campaign would win in Minnesota.

He started out blasting the Affordable Care Act. He even quoted Governor Mark Dayton, who recently stated the plan is not longer affordable for some Minnesotans in light of premium increases exceeding 60-percent next year.

The majority of his speech matched the addresses he has given in dozens of campaign stops in recent days, but he did single out five Minnesota employers that he claims have cut jobs in this state and have replaced them with positions in other countries, including IBM as he made a promise to stop jobs from leaving Minnesota and the U.S.

The immigration issue has been at the forefront of Trump’s campaign from the very beginning, and his speech at the Twin Cities airport on Sunday highlighted the numerous cases where young Somali men living in the Twin Cities have been radicalized and have joined the Islamic State Group or other terrorist organizations. He also pointed to the brutal April 2015 murder of an elderly retired farmer in Carver County, describing the killers of Earl Olander as illegal immigrants with past criminal records who did not meet the Obama administration’s priorities for deportation.

Trump was also in Minnesota in August when he spoke at a private campaign fundraising event and did not make any public appearances. His running mate, Mike Pence, is scheduled to make a campaign stop in Duluth on Monday.
