Roseville, MN (KROC AM News)  - There have been two lucky Minnesota Lottery scratch game winners in southeast Minnesota in the past few days, including one in Rochester.

But the names of the winners are a mystery.

The Minnesota Lottery recently began withholding the identities of winners for privacy and security reasons.

The change was the result of what’s called the “lottery winner anonymity law” that took effect on Sept. 1st. According to the Minnesota Lottery, the law “automatically makes the names and cities of lottery prize winners above $10,000 private data unless the winners opt in to publicity. The names and cities of lottery prize winners of $10,000 or less are still public data.”

Months before the new law kicked in, the Minnesota Lottery had been identifying big winners by first name only.

The recent scratch winners bought tickets in Rochester and Mabel. Both were $100,000 winners. The lucky ticket in Rochester was purchased at Tobacco Discount and turned in on Monday. The winning ticket in Mabel was sold at the Mabel BP. It was turned in last Friday.
