Owatonna Parks and Recreation has launched an Adopt-A-Park program. This sounds like a great way to give back to the community, help keep Owatonna's parks stay in tip-top shape, and get yourself some exercise.

In a message from Recreation Supervisor Dani Bakken, she says the program "is a chance to assist the Parks Department to maintain a clean, beautiful area and communicate any issues associated with a specific park, trail, or open space. Anyone can participate - church groups, organizations, businesses, school clubs, families or individuals."

The parks department will provide supplies including trash bags, buckets and pickers and coordinate pick up of trash and debris. If adoption is too much of a commitment, Owatonna Parks and Recreation also promotes the Park Clean-Up Kits for more of a one-time project.

Park and rec also suggests you bike or walk to work at least once during April to honor Earth Day. They are also hosting the Earth Day Your Way 5K, inviting you to run, walk, bike, rollerblade, skip, hop or any other means you can think of to cover the distance. Email them at parkrec@ci.owatonna.mn.us once you've completed it for a chance at a drawing.
