Fatal Crash Near Caledonia and 2 Killed in Central Minnesota

Caledonia, MN (KROC-AM News) - The State Patrol is reporting that at least three people were killed in traffic crashes that occurred on Saturday, including one in southeastern Minnesota.

It was reported about 6:30 a.m. on Highway 44 about seven miles north of Caledonia. The State Patrol says 21-year-old Jacob Schiffner of Prior Lake was driving south on Highway 44 when his car collided with a northbound semi-truck.

Schiffner was pronounced dead at the scene. The 59-year-old Iowa man driving the truck suffered minor injuries.

The other fatalities occurred in central Minnesota. The State Patrol says two people were killed in a "T-bone" collision at an intersection along Highway 10 south of Little Falls shortly before 11 AM.

The crash report indicates 85-year-old Margaret Schmitz of Pierz was driving a car and pulled out into the path of an SUV, causing her death and the death of her passenger. He was identified as 46-year-old Loren Schmitz, also from Pierz.

37-year-old Luke Ahrens of Webster City Iowa was driving the SUV. He, along with his wife and two children, ages nine and 11, were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
