Is Minnesota Going to Lower the Legal Drinking Age?
A Minnesota lawmaker has put forth a bill that would lower the legal drinking age to 19. Rep. Joe Hoppe's (R-Chaska) hope is that lowering the drinking age to 19 will help curb binge drinking.
In a report from 5 Eye Witness News in St. Paul (KSTP), Hoppe said "I'm not naive enough to think they won't drink in college, but at least they wouldn't be doing as much binge drinking," Hoppe said. "That's the idea behind it."

It seems kind of weird to lower the drinking age, in my opinion. I'm not sure how great of idea it is because, well, I went to college. I know how the kids behave. Does lowering the drinking age to 19 really curb binge drinking? Maybe it will encourage it?
One thing that I agree with is that if you are old enough to serve our country, you should be old enough to get a beer. I can't be the only person that thinks that, right?
It just seems odd that we will let people go overseas and serve our country and vote for our president and other leaders, but they are denied the chance to buy alcohol. Maybe I am crazy, but that I just what I think.
I can really see both sides of the aisle on this one.
Hoppe is hoping to have it at a senate hearing in the next three weeks.
What do you think? Should the drinking age be lowered in Minnesota?
