Lions Defend Home
The Spring Grove Lions took on the Mabel-Canton Cougars in a baseball game on Cool 104 on Friday night. Spring Grove defeated their rivals 11-7. It was a good time up in the box calling the game at the new setup.
The game began just after 4:00, and Drew Wyffels started it off with an infield single on a 7-pitch at-bat. He then stole second base before Logan Richardson grounded to shortstop. The throw got away into foul territory, and Wyffels rounded third and headed home. A strong throw got there and Carter Bratland applied the tag for the out. After going down in order in the first, the Spring Grove Lions got a leadoff hit from Alex Folz in the second. Three batters later, Noah Elton hit a base hit through the right side to drive him for the 1-0 advantage.
Adin Solum led off the bottom of the third with an infield hit and came in on a sacrifice fly from Carter Bratland to make it 2-0. M-C then got a leadoff hit in the top of the 4th from Parker Ingvalson, who came around to score on a wild pitch. The Cougars left 2 on and were down 2-1 in the middle of the fourth.
Noah Elton and Chandler Bergrud both walked to start the bottom half of the inning. Devon Nerstad, Carter Bratland, and Nic Peterson (2 RBI) hit singles in the inning as well. Four runs scored as four walked in the inning.
Mabel-Canton got two back in the 5th, but Spring Grove had the answer for a run in the 5th and 4 more in the 6th to extend the lead to 11-3. The Cougars scored four in the top of the 7th, but Spring Grove were the victors, 11-7.
