Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A would-be catalytic converter thief was caught in the act at a Rochester business Monday.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Lee Rossman says an employee arrived at the business in the 3800 block of N. Broadway around 7:00 am and heard the sound of a saw coming from underneath a vehicle.

When the employee went to check, a man suddenly took off running into some nearby woods. After finding a saw under the vehicle and discovering the catalytic converter had been partially cut off, the employee called 911.

Officers brought a K-9 to the scene and the man surrendered a short while later. Arrested was 36-year-old Mark Sanford of Owatonna.
