St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The COVID-19 pandemic in Minnesota has reached another grim milestone.

The Minnesota Department of Health today reported 10 additional coronavirus-related deaths in the state, which has pushed the death toll from the new viral illness above 7000. The deaths reported today included a person in their early 40s in Wright County, an individual in their late 50s in Waseca County, and two other people in their early 60s.

Over 2400 new cases of COVID-19 were reported statewide on Saturday, including 29 new infections in Olmsted County. The testing total was just over 35,000 and the daily testing positive rate was just under 7 percent.

The COVID-related statistics have been moving higher despite the steadily growing number of Minnesotans who have been vaccinated against the infection. Statewide, over 2.24 million people have had at least one dose of the vaccine and over 1.56 million have completed their shots. In Olmsted County, 66 percent of the eligible population, or over 80,000 people have had at least one vaccination shot and over 63,200 are considered fully vaccinated.
