Minnesota Will Pay You To Plant Bee Friendly Yards
OK, it's not just for bees, but it's true, the State of Minnesota will pay you to plant bee friendly lawns.
It's called the Lawns to Legumes Program, a three year pilot project to bring more pollinators to Minnesota. Why? Because we need 'em, bad! There is literally an industry built around our need for bees, moving hives around the country.
"Minnesota is home to more than 450 native bee species. Pollinators also include butterflies, moths, beetles and native flies. All play a key role in pollinating many food crops and native plants, but populations have significantly declined worldwide in recent years."
Loss of places for the li'l pollinators to thrive, pesticides, and pathogens have all helped contribute to the decline.
"Lawns to Legumes seeks to combat population decline by creating new pollinator habitat and habitat corridors that provide food sources and nesting space for pollinators."
So how do you get involved? Easy Peasy BeeSqueezy, just CLICK HERE for the Lawns to Legumes info. The fall 2020 funding cycle is over, so you may have to wait 'til later this year to apply BUT, there's no harm in dreaming, is there?

As for NON-pollinators, Minnesota has far too many of these vile things. If you see 'em around your house, get rid of them.
