Rochester Motorcyclist Hurt Trying to Avoid Deer
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester motorcyclist suffered a serious but non-life-threatening leg injury after he tried to avoid striking a deer in rural western Rochester early Thursday morning.
Olmsted County Sheriff’s Captain James Schueller says the 52-year-old man was traveling west on Salem Rd. Southwest when a deer jumped in front of his motorcycle as he was navigating a curve in the 6,000 block shortly before 3:30 a.m. A witness following the man said the motorcycle was nearly level with the road while traveling at about 45 mph when the deer ran out.
The witness told deputies the maneuver to avoid the deer caused the motorcyclist to be ejected from his seat. He was taken to a hospital by Mayo Ambulance. Schueller did not release the man's identity and said deputies were still working on the crash report.
