Rochester Public Schools Enrollment Slightly Above Projection
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester School Board was presented last night with a report on the school district's official enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year.
Under state law, the official headcount is taken on October 1. On that date, there were 17,729 students enrolled in the Rochester Public Schools. The number was 87 above the projected enrollment of 17,642 students, which is a variance of only half of a percentage point.
The fall enrollment number was down 71 students from last year when 17,800 students were enrolled in the school district on October 1, 2021. Enrollment has been on the decline since the fall of 2019, but it has staged a modest recovery from the big drop that occurred during the first year of the pandemic when enrollment dropped by 661 students.
The higher-than-projected student headcount this fall will result in additional state funding for the school district. Minnesota's basic per-pupil funding rate is about $6700 per student, which works out to more than $500,000 in state funding.
