Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) – The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says a runaway bison was still missing as of Tuesday morning.
Capt. Scott Behrns says the big critter was first spotted roaming in a pasture in the 4500 block of 42nd St SW around 8:00 PM Sunday.
A deputy found it nearby and began approaching the bison to check an ID tag on one of its ears but backed off when it raised its tail and began "urinating profusely" which can be signs of aggression. Behrns says the male bison weighs between 1500 and 1800 pounds.
Behrns says the owner is aware of the missing bison and is apparently trying to capture it. Behrns says anyone who spots the animal should keep their distance and call the sheriff’s office.
The sightings have been in an area a few miles south of Bamber Valley School and west of County Rd 8.
