The University of Minnesota fired coach Tracey Claeys, according to an article from espn.com This comes two weeks after the players started a boycott of the Holiday Bowl because 10 players were suspended. It created a standoff between the players and the administration.

The move was announced Tuesday night after Claeys met with athletic director Mark Coyle, and a statement Coyle said he needs to "address challenges in recruiting, ticket sales and the culture of the program. We need strong leadership to take Gopher football to the next level and address these challenges.''

Claeys led the Gophers to a 9-4 record, including a win over Washington State in the Holiday Bowl. The players did not boycott the bowl game.
