Want To Lose Weight? A New Study From Mayo Says You Should Stand More
If you have a job where you sit at a desk for hours upon hours, you probably know that it isn’t the healthiest. ESPECIALLY if you follow the “Make Cheese The Main Part Of Every Meal” diet like I do. I’ve noticed a pretty fair weight gain over the past year because I sit so much, so there might something to this new study that Mayo just came out with.
According to the Mayo Clinic, sitting for more than 6 hours a day has been linked to the obesity epidemic, heart disease, and diabetes. So that’s the bad news. The good news is that there’s something you can do about it. And it's not that hard, either. Just stand up. Boom.
Mayo found that standing burns more calories than sitting, so if you’re concerned about your health you could always ask the boss to buy you a standing desk. Standing ends up burning 0.15 more calories per minute than sitting. That doesn’t seem like much at first, but it adds up to losing about 5.5 pounds in a year, or 22 pounds over four years. It doesn’t mean that you always have to stand up; if you sit for 12 hours a day, cutting that time in half would have positive effects on your health.
So I guess the takeaway for this is…stand more? Maybe I’ll just make it a thing where if I’m eating cheese, I always have to stand up. That sounds pretty healthy.
