Another Minnesota Pedestrian And Bicyclist Killed
St Paul (KROC AM News) - Two fatal traffic-related incidents were reported in Minnesota Monday - the same day public safety officials held a news conference to talk about the deadly year it’s been on state roads.
The two latest deadly incidents happened in the Twin Cities metro.
The first happened around 12:30 pm in Blaine and involved a hit and run. The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says a woman who was walking a dog along a road was hit by a vehicle. The sheriff’s office says the driver “did not stop and left the scene of the incident.” The woman was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The vehicle that struck her was later located but no other information has been released.
The other deadly incident involved a bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle and killed in Rosemount around 3:30 pm. The man riding the bike died at the scene. The man who was driving the vehicle was questioned by police but it’s not known if he was arrested.
A pedestrian was also struck by a car in Northfield Monday. The State Patrol says 60-year-old Johnny Knott of Kenyon was struck around 7:00 pm as he was crossing Highway 19. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Minnesota recorded its 401st traffic-related death last weekend, the earliest the state reached 400 since 2007. At this time a year ago, 322 people had been killed on state roads.
And the State Patrol is reporting the increase in super-speeders continues:
