Cougars Girls Beat Cardinals
In Game one of our Friday night doubleheader on KFIL, The Mabel-Canton Cougars defeated the LeRoy-Ostrander Cardinals by a score of 70-50.
The home Cougars got on the scoreboard first, then a 5-0 run gave us our first lead change. The Cougars defense then came to play. Payton Danielson was getting in a lot of passing lanes, and good defense and good offense led the Cougars on a 20-7 run. Mabel-Canton went for another 9-0 run to head to the half ahead by the score of 31-14.
The second half started with a couple buckets by the Cougars, and Mabel-Canton extended their lead to 53-30. The Cougars finished with the 70-50 win. Courtney Graves scored a "quiet" 19 points in the game.
KFIL Subway Player of the Game for the LeRoy-Ostrander Cardinals was Lauren Helgeson. The sophomore was active on the offensive glass, and scored 21 in the contest.
Mabel-Canton's Player of the Game was senior guard Coranda Vickerman. Coranda pushed the ball, scored 24 in the game and was active on the boards and dished out some nice passes to open teammates.
The Kingsley Mercantile Game Ball award goes to Kenidi McCabe. The 8th grader scored 13 points-the last shot of the first half and then scored 8 points in the second half. Kenidi also played tough defense, picking up a few steals as well.
